Welcome/User Group Overview

08:30 - 08:45

SAFTE-FAST 6 software release

08:45 - 09:15

An overview of features and enhancements included in the upcoming SAFTE-FAST 6 release.

  • Presented by: Murray McGrath, IBR

09:15 - 09:45

Implementation of cabin crew enhancements

Inflight will present an overview of recent flight attendant fatigue program enhancements. This overview will also include the current and projected incorporation of the use of data in identifying trends and potential risks. The incorporation of data will focus on how Inflight looks to utilize SAFTE-FAST to a greater extent in order to more proactively identify and resolve any potential fatigue causations associated with pairing or line construction.

  • Presented by: Sandra Ingram, United Airlines

“But I didn't feel fatigued”; utilizing SAFTE-FAST to quantify fatigue risk beyond subjective alertness

09:45- 10:15

As part of many post-event investigations and data gathering projects, crew will often report a high score in subjective alertness scales at critical times of a flight (or other safety-critical activity). However, as it is well-understood that we all tend to chronically underestimate our own levels of fatigue, utilizing SAFTE-FAST analysis of actual sleep/wake history to provide a more objective point of comparison has provided a lot of benefit for the JetBlue fatigue team, to demonstrate where elevated fatigue risk can exist.

Correlating client fatigue and grading during pilot simulator training sessions

10:30 - 11:00

In this presentation, FlightSafety will present the correlation between fatigue and simulator grades.

  • Presented by: Jessica Nestor, FlightSafety

Evaluating the root causes of fatigue and associated risk factors in the Brazilian commercial aviation industry

11:00 - 11:30

Flight Crewmember rosters across multiple commercial airlines in Brazil were evaluated in SAFTE-FAST to identify potential root causes of fatigue.

  • Presented by: Capt. Tulio Rodrigues, PhD, ASAGOL, on behalf of Fadigometro Project

Real Time; API solutions for day-of systems

11:30 - 12:00

An overview of different API solutions SAFTE-FAST can implement for real time modeling in day-of-operation environments.

  • Presented by: Ben Brown, IBR

Lunch Break

Panel: The future of fatigue risk management

12:45 - 13:30

Panelists will take part in discussing the future of fatigue risk management. Discussions around real-time analysis, wearable sleep trackers for crewmembers, and the place of population-based modeling and individual modeling.

  • Moderator: Ben Brown, IBR

  • Panelist: Juanita Diaz, Principal Fatigue Specialist | Qantas

  • Panelist: Brian Noyes, ALPA International Flight Time/Duty Time Committee Chairman
United Airlines System Schedule Committee Member, Captain B787

  • Panelist: Adrienne Phillips, Manager, Flight Operations - Fatigue Risk Management | Delta Air Lines

  • Panelist: Kari Webb, FRMS Manager | SkyWest Airlines

Modeling Compound Fatigue Risk in Medium Haul Pilots

13:30 - 14:00

Fatigue related to predictable workload factors were identified from a survey of medium-haul pilots. SAFTE-FAST workload settings were modified to reflect the amount of fatigue associated with each workload factor, and a use case was developed to compare schedules identified as having high compound risk by Insights against fatigue reports from those rosters.

  • Presented by: Julia Behrend, PHD, Air France

14:00 - 14:30

Fatigue modeling for managing risk at WMATA

In this presentation, WMATA will cover how they currently use modeling in transit, primary use cases, and future state.

  • Presented by: Fatou Sow, Internal Compliance Specialist, Office of Safety Policy and Promotion, Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority

14:30 - 14:45

Afternoon Break

FRMS application during COVID and next steps

14:45- 15:15

During the early stages of the pandemic, Brazil had to source from China health and safety material, posing a tough logistical challenge due to border health restrictions. During this presentation, we will talk about how we tackled these challenges as well as how COVID changed our approach to FRMS.

  • Presented by: Capt. Caio Rosante Garcia, Azul

15:15- 15:45

Royal Air Force aircrew fatigue management

In this presentation, the scope of operations at the RAF will be looked at, specifically  examination of fatigue, assessment of C-17 pilot fatigue and relationship to flight data monitoring parameters, and proposed changes to the crew duty rules.

  • Presented by: Wing Commander Ian Mollan, Consultant Occupational Medicine Physician and Aeromedical Examiner, RAF

15:45 - 16:15

SAFTE-FAST product roadmap

A look at the direction of product development for SAFTE-FAST over the next three years.

  • Presented by: Robert Mora, IBR
